ADRIANA PONCE DE LEON
Adriana Ponce de Leon is a student at The Ohio State University originally from Cleveland, Ohio. She is majoring in Public Affairs and Spanish with a minor in Legal Foundations of Society. In this interview Adriana focuses on her Puerto Rican heritage, her role as a Latina on Ohio State’s campus, and her curious interaction with the Spanish language. She tells stories of her childhood in Ohio and Puerto Rico and how those experiences have impacted her future pursuits. Adriana discusses how her Latina identity has flourished as she has gotten older and how she is better able to appreciate it now.
LAURA FERNANDEZ
Laura Fernandez is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and is a recent graduate of The Ohio State University. Laura is the daughter of first generation Colombian immigrants. In this interview, she recalls the difficulties of dealing with the immigration system and shares her first memories of going to Colombia. She talks about the sacrifices her parents made by leaving Colombia and the unbelievable strength they displayed. Laura currently working as program coordinator with the College of Nursing to reduce the rate of infant mortality in the Latin@ and African American communities
